A Weekend at Golden Ears

I am really excited about taking this trip to Tanzania but I truly do not think the reality of it has sunk in yet. This is an amazing opportunity we have created for ourselves and I am ecstatic.

Tonight we have some friends arriving in town that we will be camping with this weekend. We have decided that prior to climbing Mount Baker (scheduled for July 2-4th, 2010) we should test out our gear and hiking know-how by heading out for an overnighter at Golden Ears. We are not sure yet how far up the mountain we will make it but I believe it will all depend on the weather. If it is nice or at least dry and we are all feeling good, we make it all the way up but, at a minimum, we have decided to get up to Alder Flats. We should be up to the Flats by noon tomorrow and we will then decide whether we will a) camp and call it a day, b) setup camp but then hike to the top without our gear, or c) keep on hiking and see how far up we get. Personally, I think the second option will be our most likely choice but we will just need to see how it goes – maybe we will all feel great and be full of energy! Sunday we will pack up camp and head back down and probably grab a bite to eat in Maple Ridge for a de-brief before heading our separate ways back home. Check back on Sunday afternoon or Monday to see and update on how things went and a few pictures! Ciao for now!
