It's Been Awhile

Wow! It's been a while since I wrote in here though I suppose, in terms of our trip, nothing much has happened. I bought a new pack (Ibex from Mec) and we have started to look into the cost of travel insurance (quoted $750 for both of us combined - this seems a bit steep to me) but otherwise we have done very little.

Winter seems as though it has finally arrived here and it is way overdue. I woke up early today and, instead of crawling back into bed or heading into work early, I decided to get my butt in gear fitness-wise.

I started my day with P90X stretch. I thought I might help work out my remaining kinks from last nights workout session (we bought 3 month memberships to the gym last night and then worked out). After doing the stretches and heading off towards the tram to go to work (where I realized due to extremely high winds the trams were not running and thus I could not make it down to work), I decided to go for an early morning snowshoe in the fresh powder. Despite the wind and bitter cold temperatures, it was beautiful. I walked over to the bear hotel area then dropped down to the main snowshoe trail where I blazed the trail down past the Feast House and around Blue Grouse lake before returning home. By then my quads were burning (I laid down the first tracks on the trail and we had received nearly a foot of fresh powder overnight). I got back to the cabin and had a great brunch of noodles in tomato soup and a piece of fish done in a teriyaki sauce. Now I have just returned from 2 hours of skiing with Devin. He called me around 2pm and said they had finally opened the lifts. All I can say is the skiing was brilliant!
